Noontootla Creek
Private access to one of North Georgia's most prized spring-fed streams. Sight fish to big, smart Rainbow and Brown Trout in the crystal-clear waters of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Tucked in the Chattahoochee National Forest, Noontootla Creek is the kind of water serious fly anglers dream about. Fed by cold mountain springs and rainfall, this tributary of the Toccoa River runs fast and clear through some of the most beautiful backcountry in North Georgia — and it holds wild Rainbow, Brown, and Brook Trout that require a stealthy approach.
With Bowman Fly Fishing, you'll have private access to the most productive section of Noontootla Creek — water that the general public simply cannot reach. Minimal pressure, no crowds, just you, your guide, and some of the wariest trophy trout in Georgia. The name of the game here is often sight fishing: spotting fish in the shallows, making precise presentations with small flies and light tippet, and truly hunting for big trout surrounded by mountain laurels.
This is not the most forgiving fishery we guide on, and that's exactly what makes it special. Anglers here can put their skills to the test in a true southern Appalachian spring creek type environment. The stream is narrow and often lined with mountain laurel making a well thought out approach crucial to each success. Our expert guides will be there every step of the way to help teach the techniques needed to catch these wary fish, meaning even beginners can have incredible days here with a little instruction.
If you're ready for a challenge and want to experience North Georgia fly fishing at its most rewarding, Noontootla Creek is your water.

What Clients Say
“First time fly fishing and we landed nearly 50 fish. Daniel and the guides made it easy—we brought zero gear and they handled everything.”
“Daniel put me on a 20-inch and 22-inch brown today. Great guide—knowledgeable, patient, all-around nice guy.”
“I'd never fly fished before. Daniel was an outstanding guide and instructor. We caught several fish and loved every minute.”
Spring (March–May) and fall (September–November) are the prime seasons — cooler water temperatures make the fish more active and the hatches more predictable. That said, Noontootla is fishable year-round thanks to its cold, spring-fed water, and winter can produce some of the largest fish of the year for anglers willing to brave the cold.
Noontootla is one of our most technical fisheries — the fish are wild, spooky, and selective, and the fishing requires precise casting and presentation. We recommend this water for anglers with some fly fishing experience. That said, our guides are experts at coaching anglers of all levels, and if you're up for a challenge, they'll give you every tool you need to succeed. Even beginners have regular success fishing here with our guides.
Noontootla Creek holds Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and the occasional Brook Trout. While you do come across the occasional stocked fish, Noontootla is characterized by its abundance of wild browns and rainbows. These two species are the most common targets, with Brook Trout making an occasional appearance especially in the upper reaches.
The creek doesn't have one dominant hatch, so a well-rounded box is important. 95% of our fish here still come on nymphs like pheasant tails or a pat's rubber legs, but Black Caddis and October Caddis are effective, as are BWOs, Cahills, and Quill Gordons. Terrestrials like ants and beetles produce well throughout the warmer months. Your guide will come prepared with everything you need and will match flies to whatever is happening on the water that day.
Polarized sunglasses are essential — sight fishing is a big part of the Noontootla experience and you'll want to be able to spot fish. Beyond that, bring sunscreen, layers for weather changes, an additional change of clothes, and any personal gear you prefer. We provide all fishing gear, waders, and boots for anyone who needs them. A Georgia fishing license and trout stamp are required — purchase online at gooutdoorsgeorgia.com before your trip.
We fish rain or shine — in fact, overcast days and light rain often make for the best sight fishing conditions on a clear stream like Noontootla. We'll only cancel or reschedule for dangerous conditions like lightning, flooding, or extreme cold.
