Trip Planning
Where to Eat in Blue Ridge, GA Before and After a Fly Fishing Trip
The short version
If your Toccoa float meets around 8 AM, three places on our list open by 7 AM: Mountain Mama's Coffee every day, Royal Waffle King at 7 AM Sunday through Tuesday and 24 hours Wednesday through Saturday on its own page, and The Yellowphant Monday through Saturday except Wednesday. The Dogwood's Bigfoot Biscuit opens at 8 AM Tuesday through Sunday. A half-day float is four hours and doesn't include lunch, so plan to eat around noon. A full day includes a riverside lunch, so your next meal is dinner. Many downtown spots close one or two weekdays, often Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, so check the day you're fishing. Every hour below comes from the restaurant's own website on November 4, 2026, except BumbleBee's Cafe, whose own site lists none, so we give the county chamber's.
Most "best restaurants in Blue Ridge" lists rank places by taste and skip the one thing an angler needs: what's open when you are. A float day has its own clock. You meet your guide early, spend four or eight hours on the water, and come off the river hungry at an odd hour.
This guide sorts Blue Ridge restaurants around that clock. It covers breakfast before an early meeting, food for a half day, lunch after a morning on the river and dinner after a full day, plus which days each place closes. We don't rank anyone. Every hour is copied from the restaurant's own site, except BumbleBee's, which comes from the county chamber, and since hours change, call ahead on the day. If you haven't booked the float yet, our Toccoa River trip page has the details.
Where can you get breakfast before an 8 AM float?
Three places on our list open by 7 AM: Mountain Mama's and Royal Waffle King every day, and The Yellowphant Monday through Saturday except Wednesday. Most of our trips meet at the river around 8 AM, and the drive from downtown to a Toccoa launch takes a quarter hour to half an hour, per our Blue Ridge page. So breakfast needs to be quick and early.
| Place | Hours (own site) | What it serves |
|---|---|---|
| Mountain Mama's Coffee, 771 E Main St | "7am - 7pm 7 days a week" | Sourdough waffles, breakfast sandwiches and "grab n go bites"; vegan and gluten-free options |
| Royal Waffle King, 4960 Appalachian Hwy | 7 AM to 10 PM Sunday to Tuesday; "24 Hours" Wednesday to Saturday | "Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Served Anytime!" |
| The Yellowphant Cafe, 3640 E 1st St | "Mon - Sat: 7am - 2:30pm", "Brunch Sun: 11am - 2:30pm", "Closed Wednesday" | Breakfast bagels and coffee, per the county chamber's brunch guide |

A few notes for an early morning:
- Mountain Mama's is right across from the train station downtown, and it takes online orders, which saves time.
- Royal Waffle King sits next to Food Lion on Appalachian Highway. The 24-hour days are what its own page says.
- The Yellowphant opens at 7 AM most days but is closed Wednesdays and doesn't open until 11 AM on Sundays.
Your guide's meeting pin and start time arrive the day before. Once you have the pin, you'll know how much time you have for breakfast.
Where can you get breakfast or brunch that opens at 8 AM or later?
A handful of spots open at 8 AM, which works on a day off the water or before a later start, plus one Saturday brunch that starts later. These are the main ones:
- The Dogwood, home of Bigfoot Biscuit, at 520 W Main St: "Bigfoot Biscuit Hours Open Tuesday – Sunday 8am – 1pm." It's closed Monday. Its own site mentions "150 outside seats" under old trees.
- The Pullman, at 657 East Main Street: "THURSDAY – MONDAY | 8AM – 3PM," "CLOSED TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY." It seats everyday diners first come, first served.
- Iron Bridge General Store & Cafe, at 8436 Aska Road, right across from the Shallowford Bridge: "Monday through Saturday 8am to 6pm / Sunday 8am to 5pm." It's a general store too, with snacks, drinks and camping supplies, per its own site.
- BumbleBee's Cafe, at 5850 Appalachian Hwy: its own site lists no hours. The county chamber's brunch guide lists "Daily, from 8am-2pm." Call 706-946-2337 to check.
- Southern Charm, at 224 W Main St, opens later: it serves breakfast and brunch on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, per its own FAQ, and opens at 11 AM on weekdays.
Iron Bridge is on Aska Road, on the upper Toccoa above Lake Blue Ridge, about 16 minutes from downtown by the OpenStreetMap router. That's a different stretch from the tailwater we float below the dam.
What should you eat on a half-day float?
Eat a real breakfast, and plan lunch for right after. A half-day float is four hours on the water and doesn't include lunch. A full day runs eight hours with lunch on the river. So on a half day that starts around 8, you'll be back off the water around noon, hungry.
Where to get food you can carry, from what each place says it sells:
- Mountain Mama's, from 7 AM, has breakfast sandwiches and "grab n go bites."
- Royal Waffle King, from 7 AM, serves breakfast all day.
- Mercier Orchards, at 8660 Blue Ridge Dr, opens at 9 AM and sells "fruit, fresh baked goods, cider, and specialty items from the market," per its own site. It's about 6 minutes from downtown by the OpenStreetMap router. It opens too late for an 8 AM meeting but works for a later start or a day off the water.
- Iron Bridge General Store, from 8 AM, sells snacks and drinks.
If you'd like to bring snacks or drinks on the boat, ask when you book.
Where can you eat lunch after a half-day float?
Several downtown spots open by late morning, which lines up with a noon finish. The main options, with hours from their own sites:
| Place | Lunch hours (own site) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rum Cake Lady Cuban Cafe, 205 W First St | Monday to Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM; Sunday 11 AM to 3 PM | Cuban sandwiches and grab-and-go bowls, per the chamber's downtown guide; online ordering |
| Southern Charm, 224 W Main St | Monday to Friday 11 AM to 8 PM; Saturday 10 AM to 8 PM; no Sunday hours listed | No reservations; kids menu |
| Harvest on Main, 576 East Main St | 11 AM daily, closing 8 or 9 PM | Takes reservations by phone |
| Blue Ridge Mountain BBQ, 3870 E 1st St | Wednesday to Saturday from 11:30 AM; Sunday from noon; closed Monday and Tuesday | Closes by 4 to 6 PM |
| The Pullman, 657 East Main Street | Thursday to Monday until 3 PM | Patio, weather permitting |
Sources: Rum Cake Lady, Southern Charm, Harvest on Main and Blue Ridge Mountain BBQ, checked November 4, 2026.
Blue Ridge Mountain BBQ is the one to time carefully. It closes between 4 and 6 PM depending on the day, which lines up with a noon finish and is early for dinner after an eight-hour day. Southern Charm seats guests as tables open up, with an in-person waitlist on the porch, so a group off the river may wait on a busy day.
Where can you eat dinner after a full day on the river?
Downtown, mostly. Several places take reservations, and Black Sheep warns that its seats are limited. A full-day float includes lunch, so dinner is the meal to plan. These are the sit-down options with dinner hours on their own sites:
- Harvest on Main: open until 8 PM Monday to Thursday and 9 PM Friday to Sunday. "To reserve your table, please call us at (706) 946-6164." The county chamber's downtown guide describes a lodge setting with a fire.
- Black Sheep Restaurant Bar and Patio, 480 W. Main St: dinner 4 to 9 PM Tuesday to Thursday, until 9:30 PM Friday, and 5 to 9:30 PM Saturday; Sunday dinner 5 to 8:30 PM. Closed Monday. It takes reservations on Resy and warns that seats are limited, per its own site.
- The Dogwood: dinner from 4 PM Tuesday to Friday and from 3 PM on weekends, until 9 PM (8 PM Sunday). Closed Monday.
- Southern Charm: open until 8 PM Monday to Saturday, no reservations.
- The Tavern at Old Toccoa Farm, Mineral Bluff: dinner 4 to 9 PM every day except Tuesday, when it's closed. It has a reservations tab on its own site.
- Burra Burra On the River, McCaysville: open until 8 PM Wednesday and Thursday and 9 PM Friday and Saturday, earlier other days. It takes reservations on OpenTable and notes "HOURS SUBJECT TO CHANGE."
Twisted Tomato makes pizza in both Blue Ridge and McCaysville. Its site shows only the current day's hours, so check it the day you go.
Which restaurants are near the river?
A few. The places that come up when people search for river dining:
- Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, 8055 Aska Road, about 15 minutes from downtown by the OpenStreetMap router, is on the upper Toccoa above Lake Blue Ridge. Its site mentions fresh trout, a kids menu and dog-friendly "Pooch Patio and River Rest" areas. Its page lists two sets of hours: a winter banner, "Starting Nov 1st-March 1st / Wednesday-Saturday: 11:30AM-8Pm," closed Sunday through Tuesday, and lower down, Tuesday to Saturday 11:30 AM to 8 PM. Call (706) 632-7891 to confirm.
- Burra Burra On the River, in McCaysville's Riverwalk Shops, about 17 minutes from downtown by the same router, offers "cold beer and shrimp on the deck."
- Iron Bridge General Store & Cafe, across from the Shallowford Bridge on Aska Road, also on the upper river.
Sources: Toccoa Riverside and Burra Burra. If you're staying on the upper river, our guide to Toccoa River cabins and where to stay explains how that stretch differs from the tailwater.
Which Blue Ridge restaurants are closed on which days?
Check the day before you plan. This grid uses each restaurant's own posted hours as of November 4, 2026, and only shows the days they list as closed:
| Place | Mon | Tue | Wed | Sun |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Dogwood | Closed | Open | Open | Open |
| Black Sheep | Closed | Bar from 3 PM, dinner from 4 | Bar from 3 PM, dinner from 4 | Brunch and dinner |
| Blue Ridge Mountain BBQ | Closed | Closed | Open | Open |
| The Pullman | Open | Closed | Closed | Open |
| The Yellowphant | Open | Open | Closed | Brunch only |
| Tavern at Old Toccoa Farm | Open | Closed | Open | Open |
| Rum Cake Lady, McCaysville | Open | Closed | Closed | Open |
| Toccoa Riverside (winter banner) | Closed | Closed | Open | Closed |
| Southern Charm | Open | Open | Open | No hours listed |
Mountain Mama's, Royal Waffle King, Iron Bridge, Harvest on Main, Burra Burra and the Blue Ridge Rum Cake Lady list hours every day of the week.
Holiday notes from their own pages: Southern Charm says "Thanksgiving Day dine-in only 10am-5pm, first-come, first served!" Mercier Orchards closes on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Easter.
Which restaurants take reservations?
Here's what each place says about booking, in its own words:
- Takes reservations: Harvest on Main (phone and online), Black Sheep (Resy), Burra Burra (OpenTable), the Tavern at Old Toccoa Farm (online), and BumbleBee's Cafe, whose contact page lists a number for reservations.
- Groups at The Pullman: "Our Brunch Experience is available for parties of 6 or more," and "For parties of 9 or more, booking in advance is necessary."
- Walk-in only: Southern Charm "does not currently accept reservations," and The Pullman seats everyday diners first come, first served.
For a group coming off the river together, a reservation takes the guesswork out of dinner. The county chamber's outdoor dining guide puts it the same way: visit the websites for reservations, "as each are busy on the weekends."
Where can you eat with kids or a dog?
A few places say so on their own pages, and the chamber notes one more:
- Kids: Southern Charm has a kids menu and high chairs or boosters. Toccoa Riverside has a kids menu. The Tavern at Old Toccoa Farm has a kids menu on Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM. The county chamber's breakfast guide mentions a "Kids Korner" menu at Royal Waffle King.
- Dogs: Toccoa Riverside's Pooch Patio and River Rest areas are dog friendly. The Tavern at Old Toccoa Farm says dogs and other pets aren't permitted inside or on its dining patio.
- Outdoor tables: The Dogwood, Black Sheep, The Pullman (weather permitting), Burra Burra's deck and Southern Charm's picnic tables, which are for takeout.
If you're bringing kids on the float too, our guide to family fly fishing with kids covers what works for young anglers.
Why do restaurant hours online disagree?
Because the county chamber's guides and the restaurants' own sites don't always match, and hours change by season. We found four mismatches on November 4, 2026:
- The Pullman: the chamber's brunch guide says Sunday 11 AM to 3 PM; the Pullman's own site says Thursday to Monday, 8 AM to 3 PM.
- The Yellowphant: the chamber lists Sunday brunch only; its own site also lists 7 AM openings Monday through Saturday, except Wednesday, when it's closed.
- BumbleBee's Cafe: the chamber lists daily hours; its own site shows none.
- Toccoa Riverside: its own page shows two different schedules.
Our rule: trust the restaurant's own site over any list, including this one, and call on the day. The county chamber keeps the broadest directory, on its food and drink page, with categories from barbecue to breakfast.
How do you plan meals around a Toccoa float?
