From Athens, head north on Highway 441 toward Demorest, then 384 to the Soque corridor. Plan ~110 minutes one way. Many Athens groups stay overnight in Helen or Clarkesville and fish two days.

From Athens, the Soque River is roughly 75 miles (90 minutes) north. Most clients drive up the morning of their trip — we typically meet at the river around 8 AM, fish for the morning or full day, and you're back in Athens by mid-afternoon (half-day) or evening (full day).
The Soque River is the closest quality fly fishing water to Athens. We also guide on the Etowah and three other North Georgia rivers depending on your trip type. The Soque is known for big wild rainbows on private water.

No. We provide all the gear — rod, reel, line, leader, tippet, flies, waders, and boots. Just bring polarized sunglasses, sun protection, and clothes you don't mind getting wet. If you have your own gear and want to use it, you're welcome to. Athens anglers don't need to invest in equipment to try a guided trip first.
Athens-proper has limited fly fishing water. The wild trout streams of North Georgia start about 30-90 minutes from most Atlanta-area cities and require a short drive. A guided trip is the cleanest way to fish quality water without spending half your day scouting public access. You'll need a Georgia fishing license and trout stamp regardless of where you fish.
